As a low level in WOW, you should be doing all the quests that you can appropriate to your level, collect everything that drops and sell it (especially those items that stack if you don't have bag space), and try not to upgrade frequently until you need to. The quests you do give you coin(!), weapons(!), and armor(!) so you don't really need to purchase anything. Once you hit level 10 you can think about buying some green items from the AH.
