A guided missile is a self-propelled projectile used as a weapon. Missiles are typically propelled by rockets or jet engines. Missiles generally have one or more explosive warheads, although other weapon types may also be used. Early developmentSee also: History of rocketsThe first missiles to be used operationally were a series of German missiles of WW2. Most famous of these are the V1 and V2, both of which used a simple mechanical autopilot to keep the missile flying along a pre-chosen route. Less well known were a series of anti-shipping and anti-aircraft missiles, typically based on a simple radio control system directed by the operator. However, these early systems had a high failure rate so they were very unreliable. TechnologyGuided missiles have a number of different system components: From Wikipedia under the

Whats the next logical step at the moment we have stability mutually assured destruction so if russia ever launched its nukes they know they would be taken out by the US and european nukes which have multiple reentry vechles in each single missile! But what does the future hold both sides are developing anti missile missiles and the US an air borne lazer defence against ICBMs how are delivery of nuclear weapons and protection against going to evolve in the future? Asked by %*#$%^ - Sat May 9 09:05:06 2009 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments A. Well, first of all, anti-ballistic missiles are still banned under treaty, credit W for breaking the treaty and ruining the safe MAD ground. But the thing about ABM's is, they don't work anywhere near well enough to keep the mutual destruction from still being assured. Even the most rosy scenario would have the ABM's and lasers able to intercept and destroy fewer than half of incoming ICBM's. So an attack from Russia would still wipe out the US, and vice-versa. What makes the Russians nervous about it is the idea that maybe a US president will come along who will say what the hell, maybe it would be ok to have the USA obliterated halfway in exchange for completely obliterating Russia. Q. can a jet engine ever goes faster than an air-to-air missile? is it because the pilot can not handle the G's? so is it safe to assume the technology is there but human body can't handle it? Asked by Eric C - Wed May 21 01:43:11 2008 - - 6 Answers - 2 Comments A. A missile uses solid propellant, versus all jets still using a liquid gas/air mixture. The solid propellant has WAY more kick to it! Solid is what the space shuttle uses in its booster engines. Also, I imagine that the missile has a far higher power-to-weight ratio than a jet. Don't quote me, just a hunch. Answered by jle4044 - Wed May 21 01:51:28 2008 What are modern missile warheads made of?
